How This Online Workbook Works

This interactive online workbook guides you through various materials exploring how both psychology and law shape modern content moderation practices.

You can progress through the material by clicking the “➡️” button at the bottom of each page.

Today’s Four-Step Process

1. Understand the Legal Framework

• Review Section 230 and First Amendment protections
• Consider how these legal principles shape moderation decisions

2. Explore the assumptions these laws make about human behavior.

• Review the fairness perception study
• Think about other psycholegal issues raised by content moderation policies and practices

3. Experience Content Moderation Firsthand

• Complete the simulation activity (20+ minutes)
• Apply legal principles under time pressure
• Remember to save your results for your worksheet

4. Reflect on Your Experience

• Download and complete the reflection worksheet
• Connect legal concepts to your simulation decisions
• Submit to Canvas by the deadline
